IDEP's third major programme is Consultancy and Advisory Services.

Development efforts as well as the needs of economic recovery and sustained development have led to a considerable increase in the demand for advisory services—not only by African Governments but also regional and international organizations. The services provided by IDEP are geared towards meeting technical assistance needs of national and regional development projects and programmes of its clients. Areas of particular focus are: the design of economic recovery programmes; policy analysis; long-term perspectives studies; pre-feasibility studies and project analysis; negotiation strategies and approaches.

As with the research programme, IDEP’s capacity to deliver consultancy and advisory services is bolstered through the use of its extensive network of African specialists derived primarily from African countries. Programme delivery is thereby assured and other wide-ranging benefits are mutually derived from this relationship.
